We live our lives through our nervous system
Right now, your heart is beating. Your lungs, kidneys, liver, brain - everything in your body - is functioning in a coordinated effort thanks to your nervous system. Your nervous system is the master system and controller of your body.
Think of the electrical system in your home. When a power surge stresses the system, a circuit breaker trips to prevent the house from burning down. What if this circuit led the the refrigerator? The food inside would start to spoil unless you could get the power turned on before it was too late. The problem is not the refrigerator, but the power to the refrigerator.
The tripped circuit breaker disrupts the refrigerator's power source preventing the refrigerator from operating efficiently. In regard to your body, when interference is present, your nervous system is underpowered.
An underpowered nervous system limits the body's ability to operate at peak efficiency - and your health potential begins to "spoil." The Insight Subluxation Station objectively evaluates patterns of spinal and nerve function. These tests will quantify your current status and need for care. The technology also boils down this battery of tests to just one number that represents your neurospinal health - your NeuroSpinal Function Index (NFSI) The NFSI scale runs from 0-100. Soon this number will become as recognizable as a cholesterol count.
What causes interference in your nervous system?
Areas of interference in the nervous system are know as subluxations. There are three types of lifestyle stress that can cause subluxations:
Physical - what you do to your body.
Chemical - what you put in your body.
Psychological - what weighs on your mind.
When these stresses combine and overwhelm your body's ability to process them, you develop subluxations. Touch of Health Chiropractic: A Creating Wellness Center has the technology and desire to find that interference and remove it. Schedule your Insight Exam today.
What are the scans like?
Like no other test you have ever done before. All five portions of the scan typically take about 30 minutes. The scans are completely safe, non-invasive and painless. Since they only read what is coming out of the body, the Insight does not generate any radiation or electricity into the body.
The video below gives you a brief explanation about all of the scanning technologies and how they are performed.
What will the scans show?
NERVOUS SYSTEM INTERFERENCE
The scans will show areas where there is nervous system interference. Since humans are all unique and different, symptoms will vary making it hard for physicians to determine the CAUSE of your symptoms. This helps focus chiropractic treatment on where your specific problems are coming from. These scans also assist the chiropractor in locating areas where subluxations may be occurring.
PROGRESS MADE DURING TREATMENT
With these scans, we are able to track your changes and response to treatment. It is very important to us to relieve your symptoms of pain. However, only 10% of your entire nervous system is responsible for pain signals. When the pain goes away and that 10% has improved, the scans allow us to see if the underlying problems still remain.
Do the scans hurt?
NEVER. The tests are completely non-invasive; they do not use any needles, electrical shock or heat. These are safe, painless and reliable diagnostic tests that measure the functioning of your nervous system & whether any messages from your Brain and Central Nervous System to the rest of your body may be being compromised. These tests are unique in that they display the functioning of your nervous system without having to rely solely on symptoms. Since the health of your nervous system can determine the health of your body, this provides critical information, which is vital to your care.
Are the scans safe?
Yes, scanning is totally non-invasive. Nothing is put into the body. Thermal scanning utilizes infrared sensors to measure body temperature change with out the use of radiation. sEMG scanning measures the electrical activity within the muscles themselves. Therefore, scanning as used at this center is completely safe for everyone including children and pregnant women.
Why does the Chiropractor administer these tests?
Our purpose is to detect abnormal function in the spine which cannot be seen on x-ray or measured by palpation of your spine. Abnormal spinal function due to vertebral subluxations, causes abnormal Nervous System disturbance. The scans are one part of the objective analysis of your spine and nerve interference from vertebral subluxations.
Why is it important to monitor the results?
Dr. Melissa and Dr. Kris want the best results for their practice members. They can easily monitor your changes through periodic progress exams. It has been proven that a very slight amount of pressure can disturb Nervous System communication whether or not symptoms are present ! Monitoring the functioning of your Nervous System is vital in improving your health and well-being.
How will this test benefit me?
For years, a concern of the public has been, " Why do I have to keep going to the Chiropractor when I'm pain-free ?" or " How do I know if I'm getting the proper amount of adjustments ?" Now you are able to actually see the changes , and it will be easier to understand the amount and type of care you are receiving. This technology has allowed Dr. Melissa and Dr. Kris to provide a "tailor-made" program to meet your specific needs.
Why are children scanned?
Children can develop their first subluxations at birth. Caesarian section, forceps delivery and suction extraction can place a tremendous pressure on a baby's nervous system. Lacking the ability to communicate, babies with subluxations often exhibit unexplained crying, colic, poor sleeping patterns and other symptoms. Children are also at risk of spinal misalignments due to falls while learning to crawl and walk, and many other "normal" traumas that children experience.
An old saying states that "as the twig is bent, so grows the tress". There is never a better time to address nerve stress than before it has had a chance to evidence itself with conditions and symptoms. The scans have value in measuring nerve disturbance in children regardless of their symptoms. What you do for your children today will determine the quality of health and life they experience as adults. Our passion at Touch of Health Chiropractic: A Creating Wellness Center is to offer family chiropractic care so that children can grow and develop to their best potential. Chiropractic care is a family affair!
Why do I need X-rays as well as Scans?
X-rays reveal the structure of your spine. They reveal the situation from a skeletal (boney) perspective. Primarily we use x-rays to determine spinal alignment and the relationship of one vertebra to another and the possibility of spinal nerve irritation. They allow us to see any obvious fractures and degenerative changes (spinal decay). The Thermal and sEMG scans provide information relating to the function of the spine and nervous system. Together these diagnostic tools assist us in locating spinal subluxations and monitoring your progress.
When should Scanning be Performed?
• As an initial baseline of spinal function prior to beginning care.
• Periodically to monitor subluxation correction.
• Following changes to your spine e.g., after Trauma.
What is Your NSFI Number?
Your NSFI number is your NeuroSpinal Functional Index Number, and tells us how healthy your body and nervous system are functioning. The Insight Subluxation Station™ Discovery model is a 5-technology unit that provides a comprehensive picture of the patient's NeuroSpinal health. This technology is certified by the space foundation and was used by astronauts. The results from this complex battery of tests can now be communicated to patients with one number. The NSFI scale runs 0-100 and provides doctors with a single number that reflects the overall impression of their patient's NeuroSpinal health. The NSFI number is calculated by using 5 different technologies, Algometry, Range of Motion, Surface EMG, Thermal Scan and Pulse Wave Profiler (Variable Heart Rate). Using these technologies and getting your NSFI number the doctor will have a better understanding of your body and your overall health.
The surface EMG exam evaluates the function of the muscles that support your spine. These muscles are controlled by nerves. This test shows the pattern of how energy is distributed through these muscles. The exam helps identify areas and patterns of abnormal tension and stress. By precisely measuring muscle activity, your progress can be followed as your care progresses.
The thermal scan is used to assess the part of your nervous system that helps to control your organs, glands, and blood vessels-the autonomic nervous system. The instrument does this by precisely measuring differences in temperature along the spine. Since proper function of your organs, glands and blood vessels is essential to healing and living well, this test gives your doctor a 'snapshot' of this portion of your nervous system is working and how it is responding to care.
If there is any tenderness felt along your spine or if you are suffering from any pain when you consulted the doctor, an Algometry (pain mapping) exam would be performed to produce a comprehensive map of the pattern of pain along your spine. This test measures the sensitivity of various locations to pressure.
Range of Motion
The range of motion exam measures the amount of movement in regions of your spine. This exam identifies areas of restricted motion, and shows if one side moves better than the other. Your ranges of motion can also be compared to established normal values. This part of the exam helps your doctor find areas of altered spinal mechanics.
Pulse Wave Profiler
The PWP of Pulse Wave profiler, helps the doctor to determine your overall ability to adapt to the environment. It does this by looking at the timing of your pulse, and determining the balance and tone of your nervous system. This exam is known as heart rate variability. Proper balance and tone are associated with better adaptability and a healthy lifestyle. Low heart rate variability is associated with aging and poor heart health. Published research has shown that chiropractic adjustments have a beneficial effect on heart rate variability.

We trust Kris and Melissa completely. They have been a huge help to my whole family. Melissa's prenatal care helped my baby stay in the correct position, greatly easing my birth. With my first two, they were sunny-side up, and it is no fun birthing that way! Melissa has been a huge help in assisting my recovery from a concussion. My kids see Kris for dislocated fingers, sprained ankles, sprained knee, etc. They are always right as rain within hours to a day or two. And, chiropractic has helped with my teenage daughter's process of having her food allergies cleared.
